Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 1, 2026
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how Avraham Z Harris, an individual ("Trequence," "we," "us," or "our"), the operator of the Trequence website, applications, and services (the "Service"), collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information.
By using the Service, you acknowledge the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of personal information:
a. Account information. When you sign up, we collect your name and email address. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email, and Google account identifier from Google. We use a third-party authentication provider (Clerk) to manage accounts and sign-in.
b. Uploaded content. Documents you upload (such as textbook PDFs) and the study materials generated from them. Original PDF files are processed transiently in server memory only. The original file is never written to disk or stored in our database, and is discarded from server memory within minutes of upload. What we retain in our database is the extracted text content of the document and the AI-generated study materials (summaries, flashcards, practice questions) derived from it.
c. Payment information. If you subscribe, our payment processor (Stripe) collects and processes your payment-card details. We do not receive or store your full card number; we receive limited billing metadata (such as subscription status, plan, and the last four digits of your card) from Stripe.
d. Usage and device information. We may collect information about how you use the Service — such as pages viewed, features used, study activity, log data, IP address, browser type, and device information — to operate, secure, and improve the Service.
e. Error and diagnostic data. When an error occurs in the Service, our error-monitoring tool (Sentry) captures diagnostic information so we can fix the issue. This includes the error message and stack trace, the URL where the error occurred, browser and operating-system identifiers, a short trail of recent page navigations and clicks leading up to the error, and limited request metadata. We configure Sentry to strip sensitive fields before sending — authentication tokens, session cookies, payment- webhook signatures, and request bodies are removed at the point of capture and never reach Sentry's servers.
f. Communications. If you contact us, we collect the information you provide in your message.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use personal information to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the Service, including generating study materials from your uploads;
- Create and manage your account and authenticate you;
- Process subscriptions, payments, and trials;
- Send you transactional emails (such as welcome, receipt, and account notices);
- Respond to your inquiries and provide support;
- Monitor, secure, debug, and improve the Service;
- Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms; and
- Comply with legal obligations.
We do not use your uploaded content or generated study materials to train our own AI models. Trequence does not operate or fine-tune any AI models on user data; we send relevant text to a third-party AI provider (Anthropic) at the moment a user requests study materials, and the resulting output is returned to that user.
4. How AI Processing Works
The Service uses Anthropic's Claude large language models to generate study materials from your uploads. When you request study materials, relevant text from your uploaded content is sent to Anthropic to produce the output. Under Anthropic's Commercial Terms of Service, content submitted to their API is not used to train Anthropic's models. AI outputs may be inaccurate; see our Terms of Service regarding AI accuracy.
5. How We Share Information
We share personal information only as described here. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not "share" it for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are defined under California law.
We disclose information to service providers who process it on our behalf, under contracts that limit their use to providing services to us:
- Clerk — authentication and account management
- Stripe — payment processing
- Anthropic — AI models that generate study materials
- Render — backend hosting
- Vercel — frontend hosting
- Neon — database hosting
- Resend — transactional email delivery
- Sentry — error tracking and application monitoring
We may also disclose information: (a) to comply with law, legal process, or enforceable governmental requests; (b) to enforce our Terms or protect the rights, safety, or property of Trequence, our users, or others; and (c) in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, in which case we will require the recipient to honor this Privacy Policy or notify you.
6. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. Account data is retained while your account is active. Derived study materials are retained until you delete them or close your account.
When you delete your account, deletion cascades through our database: your account record and all data tied to it — uploaded documents' extracted text, summaries, flashcards, practice questions, quiz attempts, exam plans, subscription records, settings, and DMCA records — are removed in a single transactional delete. We also cancel your subscription with Stripe and delete your authentication record with Clerk as part of the same flow. Limited records may be retained where required by law (for example, tax or accounting records related to payments processed by Stripe).
7. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights regarding your personal information:
- Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- Correction — request correction of inaccurate information;
- Deletion — request deletion of your personal information;
- Portability — request your data in a portable format;
- Opt-out — opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information (note: we do not sell or share personal information);
- Limit use of sensitive information — where applicable;
- Non-discrimination — we will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights;
- Withdraw consent — where we rely on consent.
To exercise any right, contact us at studytrequence@gmail.com. We will verify your request (which may require confirming information associated with your account) and respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. You may also delete your account directly in your account settings.
California residents (CCPA/CPRA): You have the rights described above, including the right to know the categories and specific pieces of personal information we collect, the right to delete, the right to correct, and the right to opt out of sale/sharing. We do not sell or share your personal information. You may exercise rights via the contact above; you may use an authorized agent where permitted.
EU/UK residents (GDPR/UK GDPR): Our legal bases for processing are: performance of a contract (to provide the Service), legitimate interests (to secure and improve the Service), consent (where applicable), and legal obligation. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
8. International Data Transfers
We are based in the United States, and our service providers may process data in the United States and other countries. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., you understand your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S., where data-protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.
9. Data Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect personal information, including encryption in transit and access controls. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it. Users aged 13–17 must have parental or guardian permission as described in our Terms.
11. Cookies and Tracking
We use only cookies and similar technologies that are necessary to operate the Service — for example, the session cookies set by our authentication provider to keep you signed in, and the cookies our payment processor sets on its own domain during Checkout and the billing portal. We do not use analytics cookies, advertising cookies, third- party tracking pixels, or cross-site behavioral trackers. No PostHog, Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Facebook Pixel, Hotjar, Mixpanel, or comparable tools are loaded by the Service.
12. Third-Party Links
The Service may contain links to third-party sites or services. We are not responsible for their privacy practices. Review their policies before providing information.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. For material changes, we will provide notice (for example, by email or an in-app notice) and update the "Last updated" date. Your continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
